  1. Was this your letter printed in 7Days?

    http://www.7days.ae/2006/04/03/regardless-of-culture-beach-leering-is-wrong.html

Great letter by the way - I fully agree. I was particularly shocked to hear of the problems at the Jumeirah Beach Park, given that it is paid entry. One (unfortunately) expectes leering labourers at the public beach, but at Jumeirah Beach Park this is inexcusable.

Regardless of the fact that the "west" is supposed to have looser morals, anyone picking up someone else's child and trying to photograph it would be hunted down and arrested by the police. Even if it was done for a joke they would be taken in for questioning.

The sad thing is I wonder if these men are actually paedos, or they just miss their own kids and think some people's babies look pretty? After all, a lot of people buy those babies-in-fruit posters and calendars of cute kids. I prefer puppies - when I went to the dog show I asked a few people if I could take pics of their dogs. So I wonder if some of it at least is kind of innocent/harmles intent.

  2. Yes... C'est moi..!

It may be many reasons that goes behind the leering but society - unfortunately conditions us to thinking the worst. They guys probably miss their families and more importantly miss female interaction such as wives daughters, and moms.

More importantly is that most of the people who stare are unused to seeing women so 'undressed' as this. It is not the norm for them and therefore, rather than treat people who are unused to certain conditions as denizens, it is therefore an indirect attempt to shield many of extraordinary circumstances.

Just as they stare because the situation is abnormal for them, so it is abdormal for others to be stared at.

btw. loved your Tea article was just about to comment!
