In response to a wonderful post: http://p1x2p4sdgh.blogspot.com/
Excellent, finally some realistic thought on the matter (Spinsterhood in the UAE).
Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said: "Go far in matrimony", we as moslems tend to hold those threads and ideals that appeal to us and should it go against our habits, then we will let it slip.
It is not only a matter of spinsterhood, but rather of bettering and strengthening the genes, lowering the divorce rate and perhaps even lessening the trend of "the first wife is for my family and the second wife is for my heart".
I have been trying to speak to people to open up their minds, start slow, look for spouses for the ladies from other gulf states, then the Arab world.
There then comes the Arab/Foreign complexities (foreign in arabic denoting 3ajmi i.e. of persian decent) and following that the colour of the skin.
For such a small populace, segregation and racism of this sort is detrimental to the growth and sustenance of a strong society and people. Wow.... did you just trigger this... phew!
I have 2 sister-in-laws who are approaching 40 and seem doomed to a life of spinsterhood. I blame the family though, because there have been offers of marriage from some very decent and hard-working men, but because they are not 'the same' they were unacceptable. what a waste.
ReplyDeleteChevygirl,
ReplyDeleteIn September I was happy to hear of two Emirati Girls Marrying to Arab men. They were in love and it took them apparently a year to obtain governmental approval but they did it.
The First is an Emirate lady and Iraqi Gentleman (the wedding of which I attended), the Second An Emirati/Turkish Lady to an Iraqi/Danish Gentleman... I hope to see more happy couples irrespective of what passport they carry and what ethnic background they are from.
